The Field Museum offers several unique spaces for weddings, with varying price points based on the day of the week and the area selected. All wedding packages include a 6-hour rental window, exhibition access, museum security, and limited coat check. However, catering, bar service, rentals, and A/V are additional costs, and taxes/service fees apply and aren’t listed out entirely in the PDF.
With this in mind, we’ll take a look at the potential estimated cost of a wedding at the Field Museum depending on different guest counts, the different spaces, and estimated costs of catering and rentals.
We combed through all the pricing details in the PDF to put together some high level quotes using Tulle’s Venue Calculator tool. This tool allows you to put in the most common elements of venue pricing PDFs to figure out the actual total without having to build a complex spreadsheet. You can try it out yourself by logging in to TulleTogether.com!
Estimating the Per Person Cost
Planning a wedding at the Field Museum means you’re not just paying for a stunning space—you also have to account for catering and food and beverage. Unfortunately, the Field Museum pricing PDF does not list the per person food cost – based on our research of common Chicago catering costs, we’ve picked $175 as the food cost. We’ve selected the premium bar package at $39 per person, $8 for chair rental, and $3 to account for the tables that will need to be rented. Here’s a breakdown of those fees and what it totals up to:
- Catering: $175 per person
(Includes food, staffing, and equipment, from one of the museum’s three exclusive caterers: Blue Plate, Food For Thought, or Nicole Jordan Catering.) - Open Bar (4 hours): $39 per person
- Chair Rental: $8 per person
- Table Rental: ~$3 per person (assuming 1 table per 8–10 guests)
Estimated Total: $225+ per person
Of course, this is just an estimate that will allow us to price out some potential costs for a wedding at a Field Museum. Stanley Field Hall + Balcony, North Terrace, and Founder’s Room: $86,270 for 250 guests

This is the museum’s most iconic and grand event space, offering two levels of reception and dining areas plus access to permanent exhibitions and an outdoor terrace. The rental fee for a Saturday is $22,000, while Friday and Sunday is $17,000. While the venue can hold up to 1,000 people for a seated dinner, the pricing PDF mentions that the typical wedding is 150-400 people.
For the purposes of this estimate, let’s assume we’ll have a wedding of 250 people on a Saturday. We’ll use the $225 per person cost estimate and account for tax. This is likely slightly underestimated, as the Field Museum PDF does not list all of their service fees. If the per person cost was closer to $250 per person, keep in mind this would cost $93,161 – getting an accurate per person cost is a key part of your overall estimate.
See the math on Tulle Together’s Venue Calculator Tool:

East Atrium and Pavilion: $52,644 for 150 guests

A more intimate option, the East Atrium features a sky-lit entryway with architectural elegance, paired with the Pavilion and access to the “Inside Ancient Egypt” exhibit. While a combination of the Atrium and Pavilion allows for 600 guests seated, you can have a more intimate wedding in just the Atrium, as the max is 200 for a seated dinner. Let’s see how this prices out for a 150 person wedding on a Saturday.

At $52,644, this is a much more affordable option if you’re interested in getting married at an iconic place with a slightly smaller guest list.
Outdoor Terraces: $85,546 for 300 guests

On its own, this is one of the cheaper rental fees, with it being $7,000 for the first 3 hours and then $2,000 for each additional hour. However, there is no rain backup plan unless you also pay to rent another space in the museum or pay for tenting. That said, let’s assume we want a 5 hour reception for 300 people (the capacity is up to 1,000 people!); let’s also assume there is perfect weather and no need for tenting.

The cheaper rental fee can give this option a lot of bang for your buck – not to mention you get stunning views of Lake Michigan. However, the lack of rain plan is definitely a challenge and the tent will cost you extra.
You can calculate the rough estimate of what it would cost to get married at the Field Museum by using Tulle Together’s Venue Calculator! For the breakdown of the different costs, see below or log in to Tulle Together to access the entire pricing PDF.
So there you have it! While this isn’t fully accurate due to the lack of exact pricing on catering, this cost estimate using the pricing PDF from the Field Museum can help you understand the range of costs you might expect to cover the venue, food and beverage if you chose to get married here. That said, keep in mind those fees typically only account for about half the cost of a wedding. Based on Tulle Together’s Cost Research tool that estimates your potential spend based on your early booked vendors, a total wedding budget at the Field Museum would likely need to be at least $200,000.
