My Big Fat Greek Wedding
My Big Fat Greek Wedding has some of the most iconic scenes in wedding history. Toula’s huge and lively family meeting Ian’s conservative folks; the BUNDT cake scene, the “bib-opsy” scene, and all the other hilarious and relatable moments that happen when you have an involved family. Not to mention, a cute love story with a happy ending is at the center of it all.
The Parent Trap
While this isn’t *fully* a wedding movie, this movie is a shot of nostalgia, Lindsay Lohan is adorable, and it features the iconic wedding-dress hat scene. And it still ends with a wedding! This is the perfect girl’s night film if you want a bit of wedding fun mixed in.
Pride and Prejudice
It’s a truth universally acknowledged that a man in possession of a large fortune MUST be in want of a wife. Pride and Prejudice is a classic for a reason, and following the Bennett sisters as they navigate love and eventual marriages will never get old. Whether you watch the cinematic 2005 version or the more faithful BBC 1995 version (and you want to make it a marathon day) you can’t go wrong with Pride and Prejudice. Especially when not one, but two daughters end up married!
Bride Wars
Bride Wars features the nightmare scenario of you and your best friend being double booked and ending up hating each other BUT it has some classic scenes, it’s hilarious, and it has a happy ending. This is a great one to watch if you want to feel better about anything that might go wrong with your own wedding.
Princess Diaries 2: A Royal Engagement
Rewatching this movie as an adult is kind of wild — what do you mean she’s only 21 and she has to get married?? But even with the questionable arranged marriage, the mattress surfing bachelorette is iconic, the wedding scene is beautiful, and it includes one of the best enemies to lovers arc out there.
Crazy Rich Asians
This movie works overtime as one of the best airplane movies, but also as a great wedding movie. The water-filled aisle, the lights, the cover of “Fools Rush In”?? It’s hard to top. It also includes the best mother-daughter scene when Rachel’s mom stares down Nick’s Mom after her iconic Mahjong takedown before it all ending with the airplane proposal. It’s hard to top!
27 Dresses
The amount of times I watched this movie as a preteen is impressive. The bridesmaid dress montage, the enemies to lovers arc with the cynical columnist and romantic Jane. This movie has everything, including a satisfying ending where the right people end up together in a happy wedding ending. Definitely a must rewatch!
Cinderella (The live action version!)
This isn’t exactly a wedding movie, but if you want to get inspiration for your romantic castle princess inspired wedding, this is a must watch. Cinderella’s ball gown and wedding dress are seriously stunning, and throughout the film there are beautiful florals and visuals that can serve as serious inspiration for your big day.
Shrek 1 and Shrek 2
Who knew Shrek was a wedding movie? It is. Social media filled with bachelorette recreations of the Merry Men as well as “Last Romp in the Swamp” themed bachelorettes, making this a top choice for a girls night. You can’t go wrong with either film here — the first Shrek ends with a rustic woodland themed wedding, while the second film centers more on newly married life and navigating relationships with your in-laws. Make your choice, or make it a double feature!
Mamma Mia
This movie is a classic for so many reasons – it’s the perfect combination of funny, upbeat, and surprisingly sentimental. It’s hard to beat a movie with Meryl Streep singing and dancing while trying to avoid her three former lovers, and it includes one of the most fun bachelorette scenes out there. Not to mention, ‘Slipping Through My Fingers’ will bring you to tears while thinking about your own Mom!
Anyone But You
This new rom com might not make the list of wedding classics — but for now, it’s at least a fun one to watch for Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell’s chemistry (and the gorgeous Australia scenery!) If you’ve seen all the other movies on this list, put this on for a low key night of scrolling on your phone with a fun movie playing in the background.
Bridesmaids
This movie is an obvious one, but it’s a favorite for a reason. It’s actually hilarious, and it becomes even more relatable if you’ve been in a bachelorette party and have navigated the occasional awkwardness of meeting (or being) the childhood friend of the bride who thinks they know best.
Bonus: The Sound of Music
This is not really a wedding movie and probably is best suited for a movie night where you both love the Sound of Music. But it does have an iconic wedding scene (that DRESS!) and it truly stands the test of time in terms of humor, romance, and modern day importance at the end.
Whether you go for a classic wedding film or one of the newer ones, you really can’t go wrong with any of the above.
